I have had several broken laptops that had the following issue: as presently as the charger is plugged into the laptop, the laptop will automatically turn on (without pressing the power button). The laptop wouldn't fully kicking. In ane case the laptop would just continue restarting, on another laptop it would just turn the lights on without booting. A laptop should turn on but when the power push is pressed. What makes the ability featherbed the power button and turn on?

I am trying to understand why a laptop would automatically turn on when plugged with power supply without pressing the power button. Whatsoever thoughts about this issue?

I would recall this is a BIOS or motherboard design fault.

basically what happens, when you plug it in, there'due south some circuits that begin operation like battery charger, some LEDs etc.

it'due south similar like if you lot have a WD external HDD and just plug it in, it will power on for a few seconds then detect that there's no data connection and shut off. I don't know, maybe they've solved that upshot by now, not that it's a big problem.

And then, in case with a laptop, I'd think it's a similar issue, information technology detects Air conditioning ability, essentially the motherboard turns on at that point. So maybe in your case the motherboard is faulty or BIOS is non configured properly and it does a fake commencement.

hither's a few options to cheque out:
- update BIOS if possible
- do the laptops have functioning battery?
- how about CMOS/BIOS battery?

basically, pull out the laptop battery let the laptop sit for a flake then plug in, do you become the same beliefs? as well, unplug the battery, unplug air conditioning, hold the power on push for ten seconds, then plug in DC and bank check what happens. Does the BIOS time reset? Does it reset when you lot simply take out the laptop battery?

Basically at that place's 3 power sources for the motherboard ac adapter, laptop battery and CMOS battery (I think newer laptops are offset to omit this one). If either of them goes bad or is malfunctioning you might experience strange behavior.

Also, if you take a possibility attempt a unlike charger and unlike bombardment (if you have aforementioned in household or borrow somewhere)

So experiment a little chip, let united states know what you find.

In the end it might be merely a motherboard hardware mistake in relation to power adapter that there's cipher you can exercise about information technology.

I would call back this is a BIOS or motherboard design error.

basically what happens, when you plug information technology in, in that location's some circuits that begin functioning like bombardment charger, some LEDs etc.

information technology'due south like like if you take a WD external HDD and only plug it in, it will ability on for a few seconds then find that there's no information connection and shut off. I don't know, maybe they've solved that effect by now, not that it's a big trouble.

So, in instance with a laptop, I'd recollect it's a similar issue, it detects AC power, substantially the motherboard turns on at that bespeak. So maybe in your example the motherboard is faulty or BIOS is not configured properly and it does a false starting time.

here's a few options to check out:
- update BIOS if possible
- practice the laptops have functioning bombardment?
- how about CMOS/BIOS battery?

basically, pull out the laptop battery let the laptop sit for a chip then plug in, exercise you get the aforementioned behavior? besides, unplug the battery, unplug ac, hold the power on push for 10 seconds, then plug in DC and check what happens. Does the BIOS fourth dimension reset? Does it reset when you just take out the laptop battery?

Basically there's 3 power sources for the motherboard ac adapter, laptop bombardment and CMOS battery (I think newer laptops are beginning to omit this 1). If either of them goes bad or is malfunctioning you might experience strange beliefs.

Also, if you have a possibility try a different charger and different bombardment (if you take same in household or borrow somewhere)

So experiment a little bit, let us know what you find.

In the end it might be only a motherboard hardware error in relation to power adapter that in that location's nothing you can do about it.

Guys, it is elementary, go to BIOS and under ability direction y'all will see an selection "Wake on AC" or "Ability on AC," mentioned. Simply disable or unclick this selection and you are washed. BIOS settings would exist unlike in dissimilar brands, but the steps are aforementioned,. You but need to disable or unclick the box next to this, and then that the laptop does not ability on when a adapter/charger is plugged in.

Thanks,

Guys, it is simple, become to BIOS and nether power management you will come across an selection "Wake on Air conditioning" or "Power on AC," mentioned. But disable or unclick this option and you are done. BIOS settings would be unlike in different brands, but the steps are same,. You just demand to disable or unclick the box side by side to this, then that the laptop does not power on when a adapter/charger is plugged in.

it happens even with "Ability on AC" choice unchecked on my DELL Latitude E6410 ; My guess is either Operating System is taking over BIOS (I'm using windows x); {I don't bother to go find windows ability on settings and so examination this hypothesis} :p OR Otherwise it's some BIOS software/hardware fault
Plus my laptop battery condition is also poor AND based on other posts here I doubtable it could be the battery consequence; Might replacing battery with a new one help
